HERO is an all-volunteer Civilian
Urban Search & Rescue organization that trains to provide light to moderate rescue and
advanced 1st Aid services when the Fire Department is overwhelmed by
a major quake on the San Andres Fault and/or the Inglewood-Newport Fault just 3
miles from us. We are in its “Destruction Zone”.
HERO formed in 2015. We have a rolling membership of around
35. Rolling means we are a viable service to the neighborhood and to ourselves only
when enough new people volunteer to replace those who moved on.
We have jobs with written One-Page procedures for all ages over
18 and physical abilities.
1) Command Center Operations for those who can document, think under pressure and manage others.
2)
Damage Survey for those who can drive, look, and
knock on doors.
3)
Search and Rescue for those who can lift 50 lbs. (one corner of a
stretcher) and carry it 50 feet.
4)
Medical for non-hemophobics willing to learn
and give Advanced First Aid and Life Support.
